White Pass Youth Association introduces first wrestling program

For the first time, youth wrestlers in the White Pass School District or in the Randle area have an opportunity to compete on the mats while in elementary school.

The White Pass Youth Association, established July 1, 2025, was formed after the split of the Morton-White Pass Youth Association, and the organization decided to give children from grades kindergarten through sixth the chance to wrestle.

In the inaugural year, 48 children participated, and 35 competed in the Twin City Youth Championship Tournament on Dec. 14 in Chehalis. The Panthers wrestlers finished third overall as a team, with 14 kids placing in the top three and four placing fourth.

“We are dedicated to fostering responsibility, discipline and physical fitness in young people,” White Pass Youth Association President Katrin Marine said in an email. “Our new wrestling program will provide local youth with a structured, positive environment to learn a demanding and rewarding sport. We believe this program will not only teach foundational athletic skills but also install the resilience and work ethic crucial for success in all areas of life.”

The White Pass Youth Association is looking for donations to help purchase new wrestling mats, as its current mats are over 20 years old, Marine said. Money donated and raised so far has been used for covering sports registration fees for low-income families, as well as equipment.

“The White Pass Youth Association’s mission is to ensure that all young people in the White Pass area have access to safe, supportive and engaging athletics programs — regardless of their background or financial circumstances,” Marine said.
