The White River Road to the White River Campground area and Mowich Lake Road will close for the winter on Monday, Oct. 14 — several days earlier than the previously-announced Oct. 20 closure date — Mount Rainier National Park announced Thursday.

“Deployment of Mount Rainier National Park staff to the Hurricane Helene recovery effort necessitates the change to the new closure date,” Mount Rainier National Park said in a news release.

The Mowich Lake Road will close at 9 a.m. and White River Road will close at 1 p.m.

State Routes 123 and 410, which provide access to eastern sections of the park, are estimated to remain open until mid-November.

During snow plowing operations or when otherwise posted, park roads are closed to all other uses, including bicycling, hiking, skiing and snowmobiling. Visitors are asked to check road closure signs on closed road gates before proceeding.
