The Winlock volleyball team opened its season with a four-set victory over Pe Ell on Monday, overcoming a defeat in the first set to take control of the game.

The Trojans eked out a win in the first set, taking it 25-22, but the Cardinals didn’t allow more than 16 in any of the following three sets to seal the victory.

“Pe Ell came out with a lot of intensity,” Winlock coach Terri Dalsted said. “Our girls made some adjustments. I was proud of them for executing. I’m looking forward to our season with this group.”

Kindyl led the way offensively with 13 kills, and she also added 22 digs on defense. Charlee Connelly led the team with 29 digs. Kyleigh Creach, Madison Rohman and Brianna Ochoa went a combined 42-45 serving, and Creach added a team-high 39 assists.

While the team does have four freshmen, Dalsted said she will be relying on four seniors to lead the way for the underclassmen throughout the year.

The Cardinals return to the court tomorrow at Taholah at 7 p.m.
