Winlock Woman Accused of Attacking Deputies After DUI Crash Released on Unsecured Bail

A Winlock woman accused of kicking and attempting to bite Lewis County Sheriff’s Office deputies who arrested her for driving under the influence in Toledo on Sunday has been released on unsecured bail.

The deputy had responded to a report of a single-vehicle collision at 240 Plomondon Road in Toledo, according to court documents.

The vehicle’s driver, identified as Sarabeth Hansen, 54, of Winlock, was uninjured and told the deputy “a deer jumped out in front of her, causing her to swerve off the roadway,” at which point her car “struck a mailbox, went through a fence, became airborne, crossed Plomondon Road and came to rest on the property of 240 Plomondon Road,” according to court documents.

While Hansen was giving her statement, the deputy reportedly “noticed the odor of intoxicants coming from her breath” and asked her if she had consumed alcohol. She allegedly said she “had a couple of drinks at the club earlier in the evening” and agreed to perform field sobriety tests, which she failed, according to court documents.

The deputy reportedly informed Hansen she was under arrest for DUI, at which point another deputy arrived to assist with the arrest and vehicle collision report.

“At this point, Sarabeth became aggressive and argumentative,” according to court documents.

Hansen allegedly kicked one deputy in the leg and tried to bite another deputy’s arm during the arrest and subsequent trip to a local hospital for a blood sample.

Hansen was booked into the Lewis County Jail at 10 p.m. on Sunday, June 11 and was charged Monday with two counts of third-degree assault.

While Hansen has no criminal history, Prosecutor Jonathan Meyer asked Judge James Lawler to set Hansen’s bail at $10,000 secured due to the severity of the allegations.

Lawler, however, agreed with defense attorney Rachael Tiller’s request for Hansen to be released on $10,000 unsecured bail due to Hansen’s lack of criminal history.

Arraignment is scheduled for Thursday, June 15.
