A Winlock woman was charged Monday with second-degree malicious mischief after admitting to throwing a rock and damaging two windows of a building owned by Winlock Mayor Brandon Svenson on Sunday.
Bail was set at $15,000 for Sarah Meyer, 39, of Winlock, during her preliminary hearing in Lewis County Superior Court Monday. Judge Paul Strophy granted the prosecution’s request for no contact with Svenson.
Meyer indicated to Winlock police that her actions were in retaliation for action the city had taken against a piece of property, according to charging documents filed in Lewis County Superior Court.
The windows will cost $3,000 to replace, court documents state.
According to the Winlock City Council’s May 12 meeting minutes, residents from Meyer’s address listed in court documents were served with a warrant for abatement and notice to vacate on May 9. Residents had until May 19 to vacate, and the city could begin cleaning up property on May 20. The city attorney recorded a judgment against the property, the minutes stated.
During the April 28 meeting, a public commenter at the Winlock City Council meeting said she heard an explosion at Meyer’s listed address and asked the council to elaborate what happened.
Svenson stated that an RV caught fire, according to the meeting’s minutes.
Meyer’s criminal history includes 10 prior warrants, three convictions for burglary and numerous non-felony convictions.
Earlier this year, a Winlock woman accused Meyer of harassment of a minor and requested a protection order, which was denied without a full hearing. Another petition for a protection order from a vulnerable adult filed the same date earlier this year was also not granted.
Meyer’s arraignment is scheduled for Thursday, July 3.
