Winter’s big night leads Warriors past Beavers

The Rochester girl’s basketball team improved to 2-0 on Friday, as the Warriors defeated Tenino 41-28.

The Warriors (2-0) allowed just nine points in the first half and took a 30-9 lead into the locker room.

The Beavers (0-2) fought back in the second half, outscoring the Warriors 19-11, but the deficit was too much to overcome.

Delany Winter led the Warriors with 17 points while also grabbing seven rebounds. Grace Hoover added seven, scoring all of them in the second quarter, and Sara Haury tallied six.

Brianna Asay led the Beavers with 11 points, white Holly Thoren added six and Presley Vanchieri scored four.

Rochester will look to move to 3-0 on Saturday, when they’ll head north to take on 3A Olympic. The Beavers are off until Tuesday, when they’ll host Toutle Lake.
