The Black Hills softball team found itself down four out of the gate on Monday against Centralia, but the Wolves battled back and ultimately defeated the Tigers 7-5.
The Tigers opened the game with four runs in the first, with the four runs scoring on consecutive at-bats.
After a Payton Baumel RBI single, McKenna Smith hit a sacrifice fly, Makenzie Erickson hit an RBI fielder’s choice, and Chloe Bonomi hit another RBI single to make it 4-0.
Black Hills got on the board with an RBI single from Emma Arko in the third, but Hollynn Wakefield pushed the Tiger lead back to four with an RBI knock of her own in the top of the fifth.
Black Hills’ Ella Goheen helped herself in the bottom half with a two-run single, Kiley McMahon hit an RBI single, and the tying run came across on an error.
Goheen drew a bases-loaded walk in the sixth to force in the go-ahead run, and Madi Knight hit a sacrifice fly to bring home an insurance run. Arko finished the day 4 for 4, while Goheen finished with two RBIs.
Goheen settled in on the mound after the rocky first inning, and she ended up allowing six hits and five runs (three earned) while striking out four.
Brooklyn Sprague was the lone Tiger to collect multiple hits, and five different Tigers drove in a run.
Centralia (4-2, 2-1 2A EvCo) will host Tumwater on Tuesday, while Black Hills (3-3, 1-2 2A EvCo) will host W.F. West on Wednesday.
