Wolves Lose in Extras

Seven innings couldn’t separate the Black Hills baseball team from Shelton on Tuesday, but the eighth could, as the Highclimbers took advantage of a rally for free to win 2-1 in walk-off fashion in extras.

Shelton  put runners on base with a walk and a hit batsman to lead off the bottom of the eighth, and after a pitching change, an error in the outfield let the winning run come home.

Braiden Bond gave the Wolves an early lead with a solo home run in the top of the first — his first bomb of the season —  but three Highclimber pitchers would combine to throw a full seven-inning shutout after that.

Tanner Parkinson was just as good in his five innings on the hill, allowing one run in the third to tie it up but nothing else. Orion Pate tossed two scoreless frames to help get the game to extras, with the Black Hills bats not managing anything else the rest of the way.

Otto Pate went 1 for 2 with a walk for the Wolves.

Black Hills will host the Highclimbers back home Wednesday.
