A Centralia woman is facing felony burglary, assault and malicious mischief charges after she allegedly broke into an Onalaska residence and assaulted a mother and child inside the home on Saturday.
The mother told responding law enforcement personnel she was asleep when she woke up shortly before 5:40 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16, to the sounds of a relative, identified as Diana Ramirez Reyes, 32, trying to break into her home in the 100 block of Small Springs Lane in Onalaska, according to court documents. Ramirez Reyes allegedly “went around the house trying to gain access through the windows and doors” before eventually removing an air conditioning unit from a window and getting in through the window.
The mother and her 7-year-old daughter reportedly locked themselves in the home’s master bedroom, but moved to the bathroom when Ramirez Reyes allegedly “used an object and pried open the bedroom door,” according to court documents. The mother and daughter locked themselves in the bathroom, but Ramirez Reyes allegedly “used a paring knife to pry open the bathroom door.”
Ramirez Reyes is accused of “entering the bathroom with the knife in hand” and saying “now you’re going to see what’s going to happen,” according to court documents. The mother stated she “moved her daughter behind her as she believed she was going to be assaulted by (Ramirez Reyes),” at which point Ramirez Reyes allegedly “punched (the mother) in the face and pushed (her) daughter.” Ramirez Reyes then allegedly “grabbed (the mother) by the ponytail” when she and the daughter attempted to flee.
Ramirez Reyes left the residence “eventually,” at which point the mother called 911, according to court documents.
Deputies with the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched at approximately 5:40 a.m. on Sept. 16. Responding deputies confirmed “redness to (the mother’s) face consistent with being hit, as well as damage to the bedroom and bathroom doors,” according to court documents.
In an interview with law enforcement personnel, the defendant’s husband reportedly indicated the burglary to the Onalaska residence was motivated by a domestic dispute, as he believed Ramirez Reyes thought he was at the residence at the time.
Law enforcement personnel were unable to locate Ramirez Reyes on Sept. 16, but she reportedly “showed up” at the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office on Monday, Sept. 18 and was arrested.
Lewis County Jail records indicate she was booked into the jail at approximately 3:45 p.m. on Sept. 18. She has since been charged in Lewis County Superior Court with one count each of first-degree burglary, second-degree assault, fourth-degree assault and third-degree malicious mischief. Each charge carries a domestic violence qualifier.
Bail is set at $50,000. “That’s based on the violence that is alleged and the use of the weapon,” Judge James Lawler said of his bail decision during Ramirez Reyes’s preliminary hearing in Lewis County Superior Court on Tuesday, Sept. 19.
Arraignment was scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 21. No-contact orders protecting the victims are in place.
