A Tacoma woman faces two felony charges after she and an accomplice allegedly stole $791.75 worth of items from three stores at the Centralia Outlets on Aug. 26.
Shayleanna G. Perez, 26, faces one count of second-degree retail theft with special circumstances and one count of second-degree organized retail theft. Both are considered Class C felonies punishable by up to five years in prison and $10,000 in fines.
Perez made a preliminary appearance in Lewis County Superior Court Wednesday after charges were officially filed Sept. 26, according to court records.
Her alleged accomplice, Natalia L. Baptiste, was charged just a day after the incident.
On Sept. 17, Baptiste was convicted of one count of second-degree retail theft with special circumstances and one count of second-degree burglary. She was sentenced to four months in jail with 22 days credited for time served.
According to court documents, Nike employees reported that $179.98 in items were stolen from their store as part of Perez and Baptiste’s alleged thefts. GAP reported a theft of $363.31 in items, while New Balance reported a theft of $248.46 in items.
During Perez’s preliminary hearing, Senior Deputy Prosecutor Paul Masiello noted that Perez had no other felony history and recommended she be released on her own personal recognizance. Both her defense and Judge Paul Strophy agreed.
An arraignment is scheduled for Oct. 30. Rachel Hunt has been assigned to represent Perez.
