Olympia police are searching for a woman who stabbed a man in the ribs in downtown Olympia just before midnight Sunday night. The man was transported to Providence St. Peter Hospital for surgery, and he's expected to survive.

OPD Lt. Paul Lower said police were dispatched at 11:55 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, to reports of a stabbing in the 400 block of Fourth Avenue East.

He said the victim and a woman were in their car when they were approached by another man and woman the two knew. The approaching pair immediately started arguing with those in the car, and the man pulled the woman out of the car, shoved her and started throwing things at her.

Lower said the other woman began stabbing the car with a knife. The man in the car attempted to get out and flee when the woman stabbed him in the ribs.

Lower said the victim was tended to by a local bartender who helped to quell the bleeding. Aid arrived and transported the man to the hospital for surgery. Lower said he's in stable condition.

The woman who had been in the car suffered minor injuries but did not need medical aid.

The two suspects fled the scene, but the man was located several blocks away by officers. The woman managed to evade police, and detectives are still looking for her.

The man was booked into the Thurston County jail for alleged fourth-degree assault and obstruction.

Any witnesses or those with information regarding the woman's whereabouts are encouraged to call the OPD's business line at 360-753-8300 and ask for detectives.
