On the 83rd anniversary of the Imperial Japanese attack at Pearl Harbor — Sunday, Dec. 7 — a pair of World War II veterans will be honored during the annual WWII dinner at the Veterans Memorial Museum in Chehalis.
The first is U.S. Army veteran Harvey Drahos, who finally received his Purple Heart medal in 2023 at the age of 100 after being injured during the Battle of Okinawa on April 6, 1945, according to an army.mil news article.
Also in attendance at the dinner will be U.S. Navy veteran James “Jim” Gardner, who survived the sinking of a minesweeper ship he was on during the D-Day invasion in the English Channel, and just celebrated his own 100th birthday earlier this year, as previously reported by The Chronicle.
The dinner program begins at 2 p.m. on Sunday with dinner catered by J & L BBQ, with tickets to the dinner costing $25 per person. Tickets can be purchased in person at the museum during its regular business hours or by calling the museum at 360-740-8875.
The Veterans Memorial Museum is located at 100 SW Veterans Way in Chehalis.
