The Washington State Department of Transportation removed an Interstate 90 overpass in Kittitas County late Thursday into Friday, after it was severely damaged Tuesday by a driver carrying an oversized load.
The damaged Bullfrog Road overpass span has been removed, and crews were clearing debris from the site Friday morning, WSDOT posted on X.
One lane of eastbound I-90 will be closed through Saturday evening, the department said. Westbound I-90 was closed for the demolition, and reopened Friday evening, ahead of schedule, the department said.
Traffic will detour at Exit 80 until the replacement is completed.
The overpass was struck from below Tuesday. Washington State Patrol cited the driver for not having the correct permit.
Gov. Bob Ferguson issued an emergency proclamation regarding the overpass replacement on Thursday, which he said on social media will allow Washington to seek federal funds and start work quickly.
The repair cost could exceed $8 million, the proclamation said.
There is no access to Bullfrog Road from the exit, according to WSDOT. Drivers should expect traffic and delays.
