WSU Lewis County Extension launches new Green School online gardening course

Washington State University Extension Lewis County has announced the launch of Green School, a brand-new online gardening course designed to meet the challenges of gardening in Washington’s diverse and changing climate.

With a completely updated curriculum, Green School empowers gardeners with the knowledge and skills to grow responsibly, sustainably and successfully no matter where they live in the Evergreen State, according to a WSU Extension news release.

While Washington state is known for its natural beauty, gardening here can be surprisingly complex. From shifting weather patterns to regional soil differences, Washington’s landscapes demand thoughtful, research-based approaches.

Green School teaches practical techniques for water conservation, soil health, plant selection and ecosystem support. Participants will learn how their gardening choices impact local water, air and wildlife, and how to make decisions that benefit both their gardens and the environment.

Green School offers two distinct tracks. The Washington Gardener Certificate track is ideal for individuals who want to deepen their gardening knowledge without a volunteer commitment. Registration opens Aug. 15 on the Green School website at https://greenschool.extension.wsu.edu/.

The Extension Master Gardener Volunteer track is for those who want to take their learning further by becoming certified Master Gardeners. Applications are available now through Sept. 26. Interested participants can contact Jason Adams at jason.adams@lewiscountywa.gov or visit the Extension Office.
