WSU Lewis County Master Recycler Composter volunteers invite residents to attend “Home Composting: Making Black Gold,” a composting class scheduled for 12:30 p.m. April 18 at the Salkum Timberland Library, 2480 U.S. Highway 12.
The free composting class will teach attendees how to turn yard and kitchen waste into nutrient-rich soil, or “black gold,” according to Jason Adams, coordinator for the WSU Lewis County Master Recycler Composter (MRC) Program, who will be teaching the class.
“We will cover basic essentials you need to improve your composting skills,” Adams said in a news release.
“This class is geared for both the beginner and experienced home composter.”
Topics covered in the class include how composting works; what materials to add to compost and what to avoid; composting systems, tools and techniques; and troubleshooting common problems.
There will be an opportunity to ask questions about composting challenges as well.
Adams recommends pre-registering for the class, so handouts are available for all participants. To pre-register or for more information, call 360-740-1212 or email Jason.adams@lewiscountywa.gov.
The first 12 people who pre-register will receive a free Geobin composter, one per household.
