Tenino fades late in loss to Overlake

Things went south quickly in the second half for Tenino on Monday, as the Beavers lost 5-0 to Overlake for their first loss of the season.

The Beavers (1-1) and Owls were scoreless through 40 minutes, but as the heat wore Tenino down, Overlake took advantage with five goals in the second half to pull away for a convincing win.

“It got off the rails quick,” Tenino coach Dave Montgomery said. “At the end of the day, there’s no excuse. We gotta be mentally tougher … We have to play better and play our style of ball.”

Montgomery said that as the game went along, the Beavers started to play out of structure more, which allowed the Owls more offensive chances.

“We have to stick with the game plan and do our job,” Montgomery said. “If a couple people aren’t playing to their fullest potential, that’s gonna make life harder for the rest of the team.”

While the scoreline wasn’t a welcome sight for Montgomery, he did say that it will provide several learning lessons moving forward.

“We have the game film, and we’re gonna break this down,” Montgomery said. “You might as well learn from it. I think we’re all excited to get back to work.”

The Beavers won’t have to wait long to bounce back, as they’ll head to Eatonville on Wednesday.
