The Centralia girls soccer team lost its season opener on Tuesday, as the Tigers were beated by R.A. Long 4-0.

The Lumberjacks scored two in each half, but Centralia coach Luis Magana was pleased with the adjustments that the Tigers made in the second half.

Magana said that after playing the first half in a 4-4-2, they switched it up into a 4-4-3, where the defensive center mid was able to better help bridge the gap between the back line and the midline.

“We did a lot better in the second half for sure,” Magana said. “I was happy to play tough competition just to see where we’re really at.”

Braylee Blankenship tallied eight saves on 11 shots faced before leaving the game with an injury, and Jayden Krogness tallied two saves in relief.

The Tigers (0-1) got three shots at net offensively, two of which came off the foot of Olivia Gruginski.

“I knew this game was gonna be hard,” Magana said. “It was a good eye-opener … We’re gonna continue to work on and build this team.”

Centralia will take the field at Tiger Stadium for the first time on Thursday, when River Ridge comes to town.
