16-year-old dies after Vancouver parking-lot fight leads to shooting

A 16-year-old boy who was shot during a fight in a Vancouver parking lot on Monday has died, police said.

Police arrested a 17-year-old boy near the scene of the shooting. He was booked into the Robert L Harris Juvenile Justice Center on suspicion of unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of a stolen firearm, according to Vancouver police.

The teenagers’ names have not been released.

Officers arrived at Northeast 18th Street and Andresen Road in Vancouver at about 8:30 p.m. Monday and found a 17-year-old with non-life-threatening injuries, police said. He was taken to a hospital, where he remained Tuesday evening.

Later that night, a 16-year-old was dropped off at a Vancouver hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to officials. He died of his injuries.



Police also learned that another 16-year-old took himself to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police determined that the shooting was prompted by a physical fight in the parking lot between two groups of teenagers. During the fight, some people pulled out guns, resulting in three people being shot.

An investigation is ongoing, police said.
