Investigators have identified human remains found on the Confederated Tribes of the Warm Springs Reservation as belonging to a teenager missing for more than six months.

The Warm Springs Police Department said the remains were those of 13-year-old Tyler Kalama. In a March 2 Facebook post, police had asked the public’s help in finding him. At the time, they described him as a “runaway.” Police officers and federal agents had discovered the remains Sept. 19 near the Indian Health Services building.

On Friday, the Warm Springs Police Department said it and the FBI “extend their deepest condolences to Tyler’s family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time. We recognize the profound impact this news has on those who knew and cared for Tyler, and we ask that their privacy be respected as they navigate this difficult period.”

Police said investigators will continue to delve into the circumstances surrounding the teen’s “disappearance and death.” Police released no other information about what led up to the teen’s death or the discovery of his remains.

Police ask anyone with information about the case to contact the Warm Springs Police Department or the FBI.

“Even information that may seem insignificant could be helpful to investigators,” police said in a news release.
