2024 Master Gardener volunteer training applications due by Dec. 8

Applications are now open for Master Gardener hopefuls in Thurston County, according to a Thurston County WSU extension office news release. 

Featuring a total of 79 hours of virtual, in-person and field-based instruction, the 2024 volunteer training course will begin on Friday, Jan. 26 and run until Friday, June 7. Training will be provided by the WSU Thurston County Extension Master Gardener program. 

“WSU Extension staff and regional experts will teach you how to use resources to research and educate best gardening practices,” the release stated. “You will also learn how to answer horticulture questions from the general public.”

Training topics include botany, pest management, soil science, plant identification, disease diagnosis and more. 



Total cost to attend the course is $325, which covers course training supplies and field trips. Payment plans and a limited number of scholarships are available according to the release. Those interested in applying must be 18 or older. 

The deadline to apply is Dec. 8. Applications can be found and submitted online.
