2A State Track Roundup: Amanda Bennett Wins Javelin Title

Saving her best throw for the final meet of the season, W.F. West sophomore Amanda Bennett won her first state title Friday afternoon at Mount Tahoma Stadium in Tacoma in the 2A State Championship meet in the javelin. 

Bennett’s javelin throw of 129 feet, 1 inch won the event by nearly 12 feet. 

The Bearcats’ Morgan Rogerson finished third in the event with a 114 foot, 1 inch throw, also a personal best. 

Elsewhere on the field, Tumwater’s Jayden Thomas took a couple medals Friday, finishing second in the high jump with a 6 foot,7 inch clearance — a personal best — and finishing fifth in the 110-meter hurdles in a personal best 15.37. 

Tumwater’s Aaron Paul also medaled in the high jump, clearing a personal record 6 feet, 2 inches. 



On the track, Ava Jones qualified for both the 100-meter dash final (12.60) and the 200-meter dash final with a preliminary-best 25.63. 

Annabelle Clapp will also move on to two finals, finishing the 800m in 2:19.04 and the 400-meter in a prelim-best 59.10. Teammate Reese Heryford will also advance to the 400-meter final in 1:00.12. 

Finally, Rochester’s Ashton Rodriguez — the Warriors lone state participant — advanced to the boys 100-meter dash final in the final qualifying spot in 11.03. 

The 2A State Championships will finish Saturday.
