An Oregon man was injured after his truck veered off Lewis River Road in Woodland Friday morning.

The driver, William Louis Lain, 74, of Saint Helens fell asleep while driving on the state route, according to Washington State Patrol spokesperson Trooper Will Finn.

Speeding, as well as driving off the road, is listed as the cause of the crash in the department's press memo. Troopers are pursuing second-degree negligence, the document states.

He was transported to PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center after being injured.

Lain was driving a 2005 Dodge Dakota truck on the northbound lane of State Route 503, also known as Lewis River Road, near the Lewis River Golf Course. He veered off the road, hitting a fence, a fire hydrant and a parking lot before crashing into a boulder, according to the press memo.

The scooter in the Dakota truck bed was also damaged.
