The Mineral Lake Lions Club is honoring one of the original founders of the Mineral Lake Lions Den Campground — Dick Suter — for 60 years of service to the local Lions Club chapter in the Mineral community, according to a news release.

“Dick has been a cornerstone of our organization, embodying the Lions' spirit of community, service and fellowship,” the release stated. “As our dedicated Lion Tamer, Dick has worked tirelessly to keep our meetings running smoothly and ensure everything is in place. Beyond his official duties, his warm smile, generous spirit and willingness to lend a hand have left a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know him.”

During the February Lions District 19-8 meeting, hosted by the Orting Lions Club, Suter was honored with a special award commemorating his 60 years in the club.

“Alongside his wife, Rose, Dick has been an integral part of the Mineral community. The Suter name is deeply rooted in the area, and Dick's influence extends beyond the club's regular activities,” the release stated.

Because of his work helping establish the Lions Den Campground, Mineral still hosts annual trout fishing derbies, with the 32nd annual Mineral Lake Fishing Derby scheduled for April 26 and 27 this year.

As for his own time in the Lions Club, he encouraged anyone interested to join.

"Do it! Being a member of the Mineral Lions Club is great fun,” Suter said in the release. “And the more you get involved, the more you appreciate it."

Suter also serves as the Mineral Lake Lions Club’s historian, documenting the community’s stories and milestones.

“Dick's six decades of service remind us all of the power of commitment, community spirit, and the impact one person can have,” the Lions Club stated in the release. “We are deeply grateful for his leadership and look forward to many more years with him by our side. Congratulations, Dick, on 60 years of exceptional service — you are truly a Lion to be proud of!”

A part of Lions Club International, the Mineral Lake Lions Club was first chartered in 1952. Along with organizing and hosting the annual Mineral Lake Fishing Derby and running the Lions Den Campground, the Mineral Lake Lions Club also organizes other events in the Mineral community, including the Light Up Mineral Christmas light contest and the Campfire Concert Series.
