A ten-run fifth inning helped propel the Oakville baseball team to a win over Pope John Paul II on Tuesday, as the Acorns topped the Eagles 17-14.

Oakville (1-0) faced a 9-3 deficit entering that fifth inning, but after four runs scored on walks and hit batters, Daniel Rodas gave the Acorns the lead with a bases-clearing double.

Gio Rodas brought home another on an RBI single, and Isaiah Bird brought home two more on a two-run double.

The Eagles tied the game with six in the bottom of the sixth, but a Gio Rodas two-run double gave the Acorns the lead for good, and two more runners scored on a dropped third strike for good measure.

Bird finished 3 for 4 at the dish with three doubles and four runs batted in, while Gio Rodas also went 3 for 4 with 4 RBIs. Nate Kluth also tallied three base hits, and he stole three bases and scored four runs. Daniel Rodas drove in three, swiped two bags, and scored four times.

The Acorns will host Ocosta in their home opener on Thursday.
