Acorns shut out to begin season

The Oakville football team found itself in a defensive battle to open its 2023 campaign Friday, and ultimately fell 22-0 to Crescent in a non-league matchup.

The defenses ruled things completely for the opening half, which finished with the teams level at 0-0 after two quarters of play.

“The first half was some fun defensive football,” coach Skyler Davis said. “We were containing and shutting down everything they had.”

Crescent finally figured a bit out on offense in the third quarter, and added two more touchdowns in the fourth.

Quarterback Gio Rodas finished his evening 4 for 13 for 124 yards; three of those completions for 119 of those yards went to his brother, Daniel Rodas.

Ben Kimbrel took 14 carries for 83 yards on the ground, and also logged a team-high 10 tackles on defense. Both of the Rodas brothers came away with interceptions.

The Acorns (0-1) will hit the road next week, playing at Bridgeport on Saturday.
