Volunteers are being recruited for the Thurston County Master Recycler Composter program.

Training for the 2022 Master Recycler Composter volunteer program will be held in-person from 6-8:30 p.m. Thursdays from Sept. 22 to Nov. 10, with Saturday sessions on Sept. 24, Oct. 15, and Oct. 29. The cost is $25.

Courses will cover a range of waste management topics. The program is run by the Washington State University Thurston County Extension and Thurston County Public Works.

Once trained, volunteers agree to give a minimum of 25 hours of yearly service to put their knowledge to use in the community. This includes five hours of continuing education and 20 hours of volunteer activities serving with local organizations, neighborhoods, schools, workplaces, or at special events encouraging waste prevention, recycling, and composting.

Volunteers must be at least 18 years old, and live or work in Thurston County.

The deadline to apply online is Thursday, Sept. 1. A criminal background check is required.
