A Cowlitz County police officer was involved in a shooting with a man who was reportedly suicidal and homicidal in Longview, Washington, following what appears to have been a standoff with the man as he was holed up inside a house with his wife and children, the Kelso Police Department said early Sunday morning.

The incident began around 11:55 p.m. Saturday, when the Longview police department got a call from a house on the west side of the city that an armed and suicidal and homicidal man was in his Mulberry Avenue house with his wife and children. The department asked for help from neighboring agencies, and a Kelso Police Department officer “did respond and was involved in a shooting with the suspect,” police said.

The new release from the department didn’t say whether the officer injured the man or, alternatively, if the officer shot and missed and the suspect shot himself. The department released no other identifying details about the officer or the suspect.

The man was taken to a hospital, the department said, and was alive as of Sunday morning. Nobody else was injured. The Clark County Major Crimes Team is investigating the shooting.
