Ava Simms Tosses Second Straight No-Hitter for Adna

Adna sophomore Ava Simms threw her second straight no-hitter — and the Pirates’ third straight no-no — leading the way to a 10-0 win in five innings over Napavine on Thursday.

The lone scratch on Simms’ line came in the fourth inning, when she hit Hannah Fay. Outside of that, the Tigers didn’t manage any baserunners, and Simms got 11 of her 15 outs via strikeout.

Simms also helped out on the offensive end, driving a pair of runs in on a bloop single in the first inning to punctuate a three-run frame before she ever had to go out to the circle.

Danika Hallom added a 3-for-4 day at the top of the lineup, with Brooklyn Loose and Margarite Humphrey each getting a pair of knocks. Adna made it 5-0 in the second, and then dropped a five-spot in the third to get the lead to 10.

Hannah Fay allowed nine hits for the Tigers, though a pair of errors behind her meant that only five of the 10 runs on her line were earned.

“I thought she did a nice job today,” Napavine coach Josh Fay said. “You’re not going to win any games when you don’t get any hits.”

Adna is set for a non-league doubleheader Saturday, traveling across the state to take on Warden, the defending District 5 champs. Napavine will be off until Monday, when it plays at Kalama.
