A 21-year-old Chehalis man faces allegations he raped an 18-year-old female friend.
Kaidan R. Sipp is charged with one count of second-degree rape, a Class A felony punishable by up to life in prison.
He made a preliminary appearance in Lewis County Superior Court on Monday, Feb. 23.
During the hearing, Judge Joely Yeager set bail at $250,000 cash or bond, in agreement with Lewis County Prosecuting Attorney Jonathan Meyer’s request. Yeager also granted a sexual assault no-contact order on behalf of the victim and an order for Sipp to surrender any firearms or dangerous weapons within his possession.
Rachael Tiller, Sipp’s attorney for the day, indicated Sipp has no felony convictions or failures to appear in court. Albert Didcock has been assigned to represent Sipp in future proceedings.
According to the probable cause affidavit filed by the Lewis County Prosecutor’s Office, a Lewis County sheriff’s deputy responded to Providence Centralia Hospital on Feb. 21 after receiving a report of sexual assault.
The deputy spoke with the victim, who reportedly said she had recently broken up with her boyfriend and had gone to the defendant’s house to talk.
During the preliminary hearing, Meyer and Sipp clarified that Sipp was not the former boyfriend referenced in the affidavit.
According to the affidavit, the victim said she and Sipp were sitting on Sipp’s bed when he “began kissing her, which resulted in her saying no and pushing his face away.”
The victim indicated she continued to tell the defendant “no” as the assault progressed.
“She said she felt frozen because she'd told him no so many times previously and he didn't listen,” the affidavit states.
Following the alleged incident, the victim said she drove to a gas station to meet a friend, who then drove her to the hospital.
The deputy spoke to the friend, who reportedly described the victim as “upset when she saw him,” according to the affidavit.
Sipp was scheduled to appear for an arraignment on Feb. 26.
