Bearcats Get Best of Beavers in Scrimmage

The W.F. West Bearcats girls soccer team defeated Tenino by a score of 3-2  Monday in Tenino in a three-period offseason exhibition match.

Right from the beginning, W.F. West managed to get the ball rolling in its favor and the offensive side of the pitch; that's where the ball stayed for the Bearcats for virtually the entire first period.

Zoey Robertson netted two goals for the Bearcats in the first period within 10 minutes of each other to quickly put the Cats up 2-0.

At the start of the second period the Bearcats, who fielded 30 different players, took advantage of their lead and subbed in many underclassmen.

“This is why we do this in the summers, so we can see the girls play and start to get ideas,” Bearcat coach Kevin Schultz said. “I thought we did a really great job at creating goals, it was fun.”

However the Beavers did not take lightly to the opportunity presented.

Tenino’s Holly Thoren scored two of her own goals in the second period to put the match right back to even.

“It was really cool to see Holly score those goals,” Tenino coach Dave Mongomery. “She was out last year with an ACL injury so it's good to see her getting back into things well”.

After a comfy second period the Bearcats starters made their way back to the pitch to secure their victory, and that is exactly what Junior Elizabeth Mittge had in mind as she netted the go-ahead goal late in the third period to seal the Bearcat win.

Tenino will play Centralia in another scrimmage Wednesday, and W.F. West will take on the Tigers and Eatonville on July 25. Both the Beavers and Bearcats will be back in Stone City for the Battle on the Blacktop, starting July 28.
