Barely clipping Aberdeen, 106-103, the W.F. West girls golf team responded from a disappointing outing Wednesday afternoon in a win at Riverside with a strong day Thursday against one of the stronger teams in the league at Newaukum in Chehalis.

Though Natalie Eklund didn’t earn medalist honors, she picked up 27 key points, and was joined by Abby Alexander (22) and Grace Oien (20) with 20 or more points. Kendall Rasmussen (18) and Macee Shannon (19) rounded out a great day for the Bearcat girls golfers.

“I was proud of how our girls bounced back from a disappointing Wednesday match at Riverside,” Bearcats coach Matt Klovdahl said. “Even though we won, the girls did not feel like they played well and they came back out Thursday afternoon and showed what they’re made of.”

Aberdeen was led by Britt Rajcich’s 33 points, who medaled and is considered one of the stronger young golfers in the region.

“Aberdeen is a great team and the number one goal for Britt was the match medalist tonight,” Klovdahl said. “She’s probably the best golfer in our league and plays really great golf.”

W.F. West returns to Newaukum against Tumwater on Monday.
