Bearcats lose opener in Longview

The W.F. West boys tennis team got back on the court to open the 2023 season on the road Wednesday, but came back with a loss after falling to R.A. Long 5-1.

Braden Newman gave the Bearcats their only point of the afternoon, beating Khonh Le 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 at third singles.

Elsewhere in singles, RAL’s Payton Thill beat Will Cumming’s at the top slot 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, and W.F. West’s Gabe Priest lost 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2.



The Lumberjacks swept the doubles matches as well, with W.F. West’s pairs of Jaxon Velazquez and Collin Bradley, Jonah Ames and Ryan Becker, and Sawyer Cothren and Mason Dowling all losing.

W.F. West is set to go even further south Thursday, with a trip to Vancouver to face Columbia River.
