In its season debut, the W.F. West softball team defeated 3A North Thurston Wednesday afternoon on the road, 17-2, in four innings.

The Bearcats got out fast, scoring 10 runs in the first two innings, led by a strong game from Avalon Myers, who went 3 for 4 2ith three RBIs and three runs scored. Lena Fragner added a 2 for 3 line with two RBIs and two runs scored, and Izzy Vigre went 2 for 4 with two runs scored and a pair of RBIs.

In the circle, Staysha Fluetsch threw more innings in her season debut this season than she threw all last year, tossing four innings, giving up one hit, walking just one, and giving up one earned run with five strikeouts.

Rachel Gray was another standout behind the plate, and went 1 for 2 with four RBIs.

“We were on the road and we went away from our turf,” Bearcats coach Kevin Zylstra said. “It's always interesting going on dirt but the girls played well in the infield, for the first game they looked pretty good.

“I’ll take 17 at the plate any day, too. Putting that up against a 3A school is always nice to do.”

The Bearcats take on another 3A squad in Timberline Thursday back at Rec Park in Chehalis for their home opener at 4:30 p.m.
