Bearcats stave off Highclimbers in low-scoring affair

Behind the arms of Connor Coleman and Braden Jones, W.F. West maintained an unblemished mark in the Evergreen Conference with a 4-3 triumph over Shelton on Wednesday night in Shelton.

As the designated home team, the Bearcats started off on the right foot with a run in the first on an RBI single by Ross Kelley. That proved to be more than enough for their two pitchers that combined to allow just two hits.

Coleman struck out three in four innings while Jones went the last three innings and didn’t allow a hit and also struck out three Highclimbers. W.F. West added two runs in the fourth, taking advantage of two walks and Alex Stafford drove them in on a base hit.

It added another run in the sixth and Jones worked around two errors in the seventh to preserve the win. Kelley finished with two hits and two stolen bases for the Bearcats, who take on Tumwater in a matchup of league unbeatens on Monday.
