W.F. West won all three singles matches and two of the three doubles matches to lock down a 5-1 victory over Tumwater at home in the Bearcats’ 2A Evergreen Conference opener Tuesday.

“I’m pretty happy,” W.F. West coach Jack State said. “Everyone played well, and even the girls who lost played better than last time.”

Singles

  • No. 1: Claire Kuykendall (WFW) def. Olivia Kee, 6-1, 6-2
  • No. 2: Kaylynne Dowling (WFW) def. Zoe Guintoli, 6-0, 6-3
  • No. 3: Laura Yip (WFW) def. Emma Vani, 6-2, 6-0

“Claire’s win was a good one,” State said. “She beat (Kee) fairly soundly.”

Doubles

  • No. 1: Mari Ceesay and Hannah Feaster (WFW) def. Makenna Jensen and Brooke Boroboce, 6-0, 6-2
  • No. 2: Aubrey Amendala and Regan Brewer (TUM) def. Caydence Edminster and Lillian Schmitz, 6-1, 6-0
  • No. 3: Kaitlyn Wood and Emma Weerasinghe (WFW) def. Jionna Wiedenmeyer and Julia Rupke, 6-2, 7-5

“Mari and Hannah had a nice game,” State said. “Last game, they had a lot of unforced errors. Today, they cleaned those up. Third doubles (Wood and Weerasinghe) was their first varsity win. Now they’ve won two in a row.”

W.F. West (2-0, 1-0 EvCo) hosts Castle Rock in a non-league match on Thursday.
