Bearcats top Bobcats to finish league season unbeaten

From the beginning of the season, one of the W.F. West girls basketball team’s main goals was to not only win league, but finish as the undefeated league champions.

The Bearcats accomplished that goal on Friday, topping Aberdeen 65-27 in their regular season finale.

“That’s something we took pride in from the start, and our girls bought into that,” W.F. West coach Kyle Karnofski said. “That’s the first one on the list that we’re trying to check off and we did that. I’m proud of them, everyone was really excited.”

The Bearcats (17-3, 12-0) had already clinched their 11th league title in school history earlier this season, and Friday’s win capped off their fifth unbeaten league season in program history.

Julia Dalan scored a game-high 24 points, Joy Cushman tallied 14, and Lena Fragner scored 10.

As the No. 1 seed from the EvCo, the Bearcats will host the No. 4 seed from the GSHL on Friday, Feb. 9.
