Bearcats Top Wolves in First Match Back From Spring Break

Posted

Playing for the first time in over a week, the W.F. West girls tennis team came back from spring break in style, defeating Black Hills on the road, 5-1.

First singles: Mari Ceesay (WFW) def. Cassidy Pearson 6-1, 6-0

Second singles: Laura Yip (WFW) def. Aurora Glassburn 6-0, 6-2

Third singles: Alayna Leal (WFW) def. Brittani Chenoweth 6-0, 6-1

“Alayna did a really good job again,” W.F. West coach Jack State said. “Over the break we got the chance to work on some things and today I could see her out there thinking about the high ball and hitting it correctly rather than what she had been doing in the past. That was a good win for us and really nice to have her step up to play.”

First doubles: Stella Moore and Chloe Whitcraft (BH) def. Emma Hamilton and Katelyn Wood (WFW) 6-2, 7-5

Second doubles: Emma Weerasinghe and Lillian Hueffed (WFW) def. Hailey Carey and Charlotte Michaud (BH) 6-4, 6-1

Third doubles: Joy Pluard and Ellie Mittge (WFW) def. Hans Bergford and Sophie Oakes (BH) 6-2, 6-2

“Overall I was pleased with all the kids that played varsity today,” State said. “Ellie at third doubles it was her first varsity match today and she did a nice job, she gets to a lot of balls and keeps it in play.”

The Bearcats take on Shelton at home Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
