Beavers Drop Match in Elma

Making the trip out west to Grays Harbor, the Tenino girls soccer team fell to Elma Thursday, 4-0.

The Beavers, down just 1-0 at the half, saw what was once a manageable deficit quickly become unmanageable with goals scored by the Eagles in the 50th, 67th, and 73rd minutes.

“We came out flying in the first minutes, I really felt like we had the same energy that we had against Montesano, but honestly, we were tired and banged up,” Beavers coach Dave Montgomery said. “Had a lot of girls playing through injuries, a ton of kudos to the players for soldiering through all that. It was a really tough one, Elma’s always a pretty physical team, it took a toll. Having two very physical games in three days is tough.”

The Beavs were fresh off a 3-1 loss to Montesano on Tuesday, and couldn’t get healthy enough quickly to give the Eagles a good fight in the second half.

Tenino will try to pick up its first league win next Thursday after a bye against Hoquiam on the Black Top.
