Beavers Drop Tight Contest to Eagles

Hosting Elma for its second contest against the Eagles this season, the Tenino girls soccer team fell, 1-0, on the Black Top to its league rivals.

Playing defensively for most of the night, and hoping to beat the Eagles with a counterattack, that chance never materialized, though the Beavers played stout defense save for one Eagle goal.

The Elma attack finally broke through in the 62nd minute, when Beta Valentine got past the Tenino defense and put a goal through the back of the net that would turn out to be the game-winner. The Eagles outshot the Beavers, 8-3, on the night, and Trinity Tafoya earned four saves in the loss.

“Our midfielders did an excellent job frustrating them,” Tenino coach Dave Montgomery said. “The gameplan was working. They’re a good team, we knew if we could keep it close we had a chance with our speed.”

Montgomery specifically shouted out Nicole Fralick, Paisley Garcia, Cheyenne Rossow, and Elizabeth Disken for their strong play in the midfield.

The Beavers will take on Hoquiam next at Olympic Stadium on Tuesday after a bye on Thursday.
