Beavers Eliminated After District Loss to Eagles

After several games in a row of shooting over 40% from the floor, and holding opposing teams to less than optimal shooting percentages, the Tenino boys basketball team couldn’t replicate that same success in a season-ending, 51-38, 1A District IV tournament loss to Elma Saturday night.

The Beavers couldn’t get enough consistent offense in the win, and the Eagles shot 6-of-15 from behind the arc in an efficient offensive performance.

“Our luck finally caught up to us,” Beavers coach Joe Chirhart said. “Elma was the better team tonight. We could never get over the hump, it just didn’t go our way.”

In their final basketball games as Beavers, Takari Hickle and Toby Suess scored eight and one point, respectively. The Beavers were led by Will Feltus’ 12 points.

Despite an incredibly young roster, with five freshmen getting regular and consistent playing time, the Beavers earned a district bid and have come a long way in the past few seasons. Chirhart won’t forget the impact seniors Hickle and Suess have left on the program.

“Suess is a great teammate, and a great leader,” Chirhart said. “Takari brought the most dominant inside game in 1A, he’s easily one of the best posts in 1A. He’s constantly seeing double teams and is a great leader. Him and Toby have left this program in a much better place than they found it.”
