Beavers Take Down Ilwaco

Two big innings did the damage for the Tenino softball team, which earned its second win of the season with a 12-5 non-league victory over Ilwaco on Saturday.

The Beavers banged out four runs in the first inning, with Brooke Bratton hitting a 2-RBI single, Chloe Grayless drawing a bases-loaded walk, and Macie Scharber driving in one more on an infield knock.

Ilwaco came back to tie the game at 5-5 in the top of the fifth, but Tenino responded with a seven-run frame in the bottom half of the inning. Grayless started the scoring with a two-run triple, and after the Beavers batted around in the frame, she came back up and ended it with a bases-loaded walk.

Sophie Hussey led the way in the hit column with three singles, knocking in three runs and scoring two more. Bratton had a 2-for-4 day with a triple, and Kiyah Goodwin went 2 for 4 with a pair of doubles.

Grayless scattered eight hits across seven innings in the circle, though she did have to work around five free passes and five errors in the field behind her. Three of the five runs she allowed were earned, as the Fishermen took her deep twice.

Tenino is set for a 1A Evergreen League matchup at Eatonville on Tuesday.
