Beavers Take Home Win From Forks

The Tenino boys soccer team snapped a five-match skid with an offensive explosion that nearly matched its entire scoring total from the whole season Monday, beating Forks 5-3 in 1A Evergreen play.

The Beavers didn’t take long to get into rhythm, getting on the board with a Max Craig goal just four minutes in. Just seven minutes after that Tenino lined up to take a corner kick, and instead of swinging in a cross, David Espinoza curled it all the way into the net to make it 2-0.

“It was a nice change of pace to come out and get a couple early goals,” Tenino coach Trevor Fetbrant said.

Forks came back with a goal of its own midway through the first half, and opened up the second with another to tie things up. But the game wouldn’t remain tied for long, with Alex Reichelderfer giving the Beavers a 3-2 lead in the 56th.

“Once we got that third goal, we felt like we had everything well under control, and could manage it the rest of the way,” Fetbrandt said. “We were a really dangerous group today.”

Reichelderfer gave Tenino some breathing room in the 66th minute, and just a few brief moments later, Espinoza made the lead three goals with his second.

Forks wrapped up the scoring with a penalty kick in the 70th, but couldn’t make things any closer.

The Spartans cracked 29 shots off, but only half found the target. Tenino keeper Brock Maurer made 12 saves on the night.

Tenino will return home for its next dose of league action, hosting Ilwaco on Wednesday.
