Bids for Next Phase of Centralia Station Construction Unveiled

Contractors and Centralia residents were at the Port of Centralia Tuesday afternoon when the 2 p.m. bid acceptance deadline for phase two of the Centralia Station project arrived.

Engineering consultants Michael Read, of Transportation Engineering Northwest, and Bryan Huschka, of AECOM, were on hand to open and announce contractor bids. 

Scarsella Bros., Inc., held the lowest bid while Midway Underground held the highest. 

The nine project bids that were submitted to the port listed from lowest to highest included: 

• Scarsella Bros. Inc., of Kent, with a bid of $2,337,681.75. 

• Granite Construction Co., of Olympia, with a bid of $2,416,432.52.

• Tapani Inc., of Battle Ground, with a bid of $2,528,634.

• Active Construction Inc., of Tacoma, with a bid of $2,650,650.

• Miles Resources, of Puyallup, with a bid of $2,742,594.63.



• Ceccanti Inc., of Tacoma, with a bid of $2,842,297.14.

• Johansen Construction Company, of Sumner, with a bid of $2,865,860.51.

• Pivetta Brothers Construction, of Sumner, with a bid of $3,033,828.35.

• Midway Underground, of Toledo, with a bid of $3,105,748.16.

The original engineer estimate for phase two of the Centralia Station project $3,815,204 according to Read. 

Centralia Station is a proposed shopping center and mixed-use development with WinCo Foods planned as the anchor tenant. Once completed, it will be located just off the Mellen Street exit along Interstate 5.

A warehouse-style supermarket chain that offers bulk food items, WinCo is also open 24 hours a day. 

WinCo has yet to submit finalized site plans for Centralia Station. During a previous port meeting at the beginning of March, Port of Centralia Executive Director Kyle Heaton said he expected plans to be delivered, “within the next month or so.”  

Midway Underground is still in the process of completing phase one of the project. Midway’s bid for phase 1 was $6,116,322.03. The Port of Centralia expects phase one to be completed by July.
