The Toledo School District Board of Directors has selected Brennan Bailey to be the district’s next superintendent.

The district's outgoing superintendent, Chris Rust, is set to retire at the end of the current school year.

The school board made the formal decision on Rust’s replacement during a special meeting Friday night following several rounds of interviews.

A 2008 W.F. West High School graduate, Bailey began his career in education as a student teacher in Toledo and has been working as a teacher and assistant principal for the district, according to a news release.

Bailey additionally served on the Chehalis School Board from January 2012 to April 2021.

Before falling head over heels for education, he was a former real estate broker and managed his own company in his early 20s, according to previous Chronicle reporting.

He taught at schools in Longview and Toledo before taking leave to earn a master’s degree in education policy and management from Harvard University.

After Harvard, he entered a principal certification program at Saint Martin’s University in Lacey.

Bailey will begin his role as Toledo School District Superintendent on July 1 and will spend the next few weeks transitioning into that role, according to the Toledo School District.
