Brumfield leads Bearcats past Cougars

One week after scoring five touchdowns in a win, W.F. West’s Gage Brumfield had another stellar night on Friday, as the senior scored three touchdowns to lead W.F. West to a 21-13 win over 3A Capital.

The Cougars got on the board first, but Brumfield responded with the first of two rushing touchdowns to tie the game at seven.

In the second, Brumfield found Ross Kelley for a 25-yard score through the air before finding the end zone again with his legs before halftime.

The W.F. West defense gave the Capital passing attack trouble all night, as the Cougars connected on less than half of their passing attempts (17 of 38) and threw for under 200 yards on the night.

Brumfield finished with 226 yards through the air and 86 on the ground, while Kelley finished with 63 receiving yards on four catches. Grady Westlund also caught four passes for 80 yards, and Tucker Land hauled in seven passes for 64 yards.

W.F. West (2-0) will be at home for the first time next Friday, when 3A Timberline will come to town.
