Capital’s Quin Walz resets own school sophomore record at Oaksridge Invitational

Capital sophomore cross country runner Quin Walz continued his torrid start to the season, breaking his own school sophomore class record at the Oaksridge Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 10.

Walz finished in fourth place with a season-best time of 16 minutes and 35.2 seconds. His previous record was 16:38.8, set on Oct. 3 at the HOKA 30th John Payne XC Invite.

Capital junior Abram Montermini (fifth at 16:36.0) finished right behind Walz, while Capital senior Jae Walz came in sixth at 16:42.4. Capital senior Oliver Schrader set a personal record at 16:50.2 to take eighth place, and junior Isaac Zwiefel placed 10th with a season-best 16:57.8. 

Capital junior Brad Crossen ran a PR of 17:07.8 to finish in 11th, and Timberline senior Enoch Augur narrowly took 12th with his best race of the season at 17:20.0 

Tenino sophomore Weston Frank (15th at 17:24.6) and senior Porter Mowry (16th at 17:25.1) both set PRs in a race for 15th place. 

Rochester’s top boys finisher was junior Kian Christiansen, who earned a PR at 17:54.2 in 22nd place. River Ridge junior Antonio Hopson’s PR of 18:22.1 landed him a PR and 25th place.



Mossyrock’s highest placer in the boys race was freshman Rory Woods, who finished in 35th with a PR of 18:49.3. 

River Ridge senior Rylea Moss was the area’s top runner in the girls race, narrowly missing her PR at 21:16.8 to finish in fifth. Her teammate Xyla Camp continued her strong junior season with a PR of 21:27.8 for a sixth-place run. 

Capital freshman Emma Lamont improved her PR once again with a seventh-place time of 21:33.3. It’s her first sub-22-minute race of her prep career. Capital senior Bella Lang also earned a PR of 22:25.8 to take 11th, and Timberline freshman Kalea Rahal-Cochran finished with a PR of 22:29.6 for 12th place.

Capital junior Avey Garner (13th at 22:31.5), freshman Isla Powell (15th at 22:50.5) and junior Serenia Thibodeaux (19th at 23:02.1) all took home PRs and top-20 spots.

Rochester’s top runner in the girls race was sophomore McKenzie Blankenship, who finished in 16th with a season-best of 22:56.2. 

Mossyrock freshman Ella Nolan impressed with a 10th-place run of 22:22.9, a new PR. Eighth grader Leah Wedam also clinched a 14th-place time of 22:47.3 for her best time yet.
