Drivers traveling on Chamber Way might notice the Centralia-Chehalis Chamber of Commerce’s brick monument sign on the corner missing after a car crashed into it Friday morning.

A dog inside a car driving on Chamber Way in Chehalis Friday morning reportedly jumped into the driver’s lap, causing the driver to swerve and crash into the sign and sitting area at about 10 a.m., according to Chamber of Commerce Director Cynthia Mudge.

“It’s completely gone,” she said of the sign and the brick.

The corner where the sign was located is typically “very active,” Mudge noted.

Talking to a reporter Friday afternoon, Mudge commended local law enforcement and city staff who responded to clean up the scene.

“Everyone was really responsive,” she said.

The car was towed from the scene. Information on whether any of the involved parties were injured or if the driver will be criminally cited was not publicly available as of Friday afternoon.
