Cardinale and Greene leading Lewis County Fire District 6 commissioner race

Posted

Recently retired Lewis County Fire District 6 Chief Ken Cardinale was leading the race for position No. 3 on the district’s board of commissioners against incumbent Gregory Greene and fellow challenger Abraham Meyer on Tuesday night.

With the top two vote-getters advancing to the general election, preliminary primary election results indicate Cardinale and Greene will face off in November, with Cardinale garnering 651 ballots, or 54.11% of the vote, to Greene’s 420 votes, or 34.91% of the vote.

Cardinale retired earlier this year after a combined eight years as fire chief for the City of Chehalis and Lewis County Fire District 6. Greene is a former Thurston County District 6 firefighter who was appointed to the position No. 3 seat in 2021.

Meyer, a Chehalis firefighter, trailed behind his competitors on election night with 122 votes, or 10.14% of the vote.

A total of 10 ballots had gone to a write-in candidate as of election night.

In the first round of ballots counted, just 21.82% of Lewis County’s 35,140 registered voters had turned out. Over 7,600 ballots had been counted throughout the county, and the next set of results was slated to come in at 4 p.m. on Aug. 2.

The election will be certified on Aug. 15 at the Lewis County Courthouse.
