The Winlock girls basketball team didn’t exactly light up its home scoreboard up Wednesday, but the Cardinals made sure Wahkiakum had it even tougher in a 33-23 Central 2B League win.

The Cardinals (2-6, 1-3 C2BL) held their guests to just one point for nearly the entire first half, with the Mules not making their first field goal until there were just 30 seconds left in the second quarter.

Wahkiakum came back to score more in the third quarter, but the 14-point lead Winlock had built by halftime held up as enough.

Victoria Sancho led all scorers with 11 points, and also brought down seven rebounds and five steals. Kindyl Kelly added eight points, 11 board and five assists for the Cardinals, while Madison Pelagio had six points and six rebounds.

Winlock will be off for over a week, returning to action Dec. 29 at Rochester.
