CC gets first win under Chirhart in OT

The Centralia College men’s basketball team kept up the dramatics in Longview on Saturday, and this time got the win to go along with the show, beating Everett 100-96 in overtime to earn its first win of the season, and its first win under new head coach Joe Chirhart.

A day removed from coming back from a 22-point deficit before losing to Columbia Basin, the Blazers trailed 70-55 with 12:40 to go Saturday, but ripped off a 28-18 run to tie the game up at 83-83 on a Bryson Williams layup. CC led by as many as four points with nine seconds left, only for the Trojans to come back at the death, hitting a pair of free throws, getting a stop, and hitting a layup in a matter of three seconds.

The Blazers ground things their way in overtime, though thanks in large part to OJ Dybdahl, who tallied seven points and two blocks in the extra period, while Kevin Williams provided the other four points.

Nashon Henderson Crews led all scorers with 29 points, and also had seven assists, seven steals and three rebounds. Dybdahl had 22 points and a team-high nine boards. Bryson Williams scored 19 points — finishing 5 for 8 from beyond the arc — and Kevin Williams added 13.

CC will be back at it for one more game in Longview on Sunday, against Spokane.
